Pep Putting Down Roots in City Centre Is a Good Sign as Club Begin Talks over New Contract

CITY are looking forward to negotiating a new contract with Pep Guardiola to extend his stay in Manchester.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich chief signed a three-year deal at the Etihad in 2016.

He endured a trophyless campaign for the first time in his career but was determined to make a success of his Manchester project and has seen an emphatic turnaround this season, with his team unbeaten in all domestic competitions and 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

City are keen to tie Guardiola down to a longer stay and intend to open discussions over an improved contract at the end of the current season. They will be encouraged by the fact the manager has bought the city centre apartment he lives in with his family for £2.7m this year, having previously rented.

Guardiola was happy to talk up how much he enjoys life in the city centre.

"The commitment was the same as last season when I didn't win," he said. "It looks like a commitment because we won, but last season it was the same. …
