Policeman Knocked out as He Goes to Investigate Park Brawl

A POLICE officer was knocked unconscious after being called to break up a brawl in Heaton Park.

He was hit over the back of the head and left unconscious while searching for a large group of youths who had been fighting in the park.

A spokeswoman said he was taken to hospital with head injuries following the incident but has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.

Police were first called to the park, just off Middleton Road, at about 6.50pm on Friday, December 22.

There they found a large group of youths, who quickly ran away when they arrived.

The officer was then knocked unconscious when he went looking for the culprits.

Police believe the fight was planned, and are appealing for anyone with more information to come forward. …
