Mahwah SUV Thief Flees after High-Speed Chase with Police

MAHWAH – The driver of a stolen SUV got away Saturday morning, after police broke off a high-speed chase because of safety concerns, authorities said.

According to Police Chief James Batelli, the chase began around 3 a.m. Saturday when a Beverly Place resident called 911 to report that a silver 2016 Toyota Landcruiser was just stolen from his driveway.

Multiple patrol units responded and a statewide bulletin was sent out, the chief said.

Less than one minute later, a Franklin Lakes police officer advised that he was behind the vehicle, Batelli said.

The officer was joined by Mahwah police Sgt. Michael Blondin and Officer Chris Fasulo.

When the patrol vehicles' emergency lights were activated, the stolen vehicle accelerated onto Route 208 south, Batelli said. …
