Braddock Mayor Should Reconsider His Support for Wells

Has Braddock Mayor John Fetterman been living under a rock for the past 10 years? I'm disappointed that he supports fracking wells at the Edgar Thomson Works by Merrion Oil & Gas Corp., which has no experience in horizontal shale drilling (Dec. 27, "New Mexico Company Planning to Drill, Frack Gas Wells at U.S. Steel's Edgar Thomson Mill").

Mr. Fetterman is obviously concerned for his children and others nearby. But he must know that many reputable studies over the past 10 years prove that people living and working near a fracking well - especially children - suffer severe health dangers from toxic emissions, groundwater contamination, explosions and leaks from the drilling, fracking and transporting process.

Alarming correlations between proximity to fracking wells and low birth weights of children were reported in a study published in Science Advances last month. …
