Mounties say two people are dead and six others were injured after a pickup truck and a minivan crashed on the Sea to Sky Highway.

They say it happened last night near the Cheekye River Bridge between Squamish and Whistler.

R-C-M-P say a lone driver in a northbound truck crossed the centre line and hit the minivan, which was carrying seven people.

The driver and a passenger in the minivan were killed, while another passenger is in critical condition in hospital and the pickup driver is in serious condition. (The Canadian Press)

(BC-Air-Quality-Advisories)

The B-C communities of Prince George and Vanderhoof are under air quality advisories.

The Environment Ministry and the Northern Health authority say fine particulate matter from industry and residential wood burning is contributing to poor air quality in the area.

They say the air quality may not improve until Friday, when a ridge of high pressure that's been trapping air in the region is expected to dissipate.

Residents are being asked to avoid using wood stoves and fireplaces if possible, and those with chronic medical conditions should postpone any strenuous exercise. (The Canadian Press)

A provincial court judge must decide if a trial can proceed with or without a company accused of operating a vessel that leaked thousands of litres of bunker fuel into Vancouver's English Bay.

The Crown alleges that Alassia NewShips Management was operating the M-V Marathassa when it leaked 27-hundred litres of fuel in April of 2015.

Alassia has denied it owned the vessel and also says it wasn't properly served a summons in the case.

The company and the vessel have both been charged with 10 pollution-related offences following a Transport Canada investigation. (The Canadian Press)
