Topeka's Evel Knievel Museum has been voted the fifth best new national attraction in 2017, according to a USA Today 10Best Readers' Choice travel contest.

Voting began early last month for the top 10 best new national attractions.

Mike Patterson, co-founder of the museum at 2047 S.W. Topeka Blvd., was pleased with where the attraction ended up.

"Looking at the list of attractions, we were thrilled to just be considered, but to land in the top five is really gratifying for the efforts of our whole team," said Patterson, who is also owner of Historic Harley-Davidson.

The winner of the best new national attraction was the Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium.

It opened Sept. 22 in Springfield, Mo., about 3 1/2 hours away from Topeka.
