HASBROUCK HEIGHTS — The Borough Council is expected to appoint someone to replace Peter Traina, who resigned from the council last month.

The borough's Republican committee has presented the council with three possible candidates for the job: former councilmen David Gonzalez and Thomas Meli, and Lori Terranova.

Councilman Justin DiPisa said he expects the council to make a decision this month. The next council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday.

Traina resigned on Dec. 12 after serving on the council for two years. He said he had to step down due to new policy changes being implemented by his employer, the Bank of New York Mellon, that would prevent him from holding a position in public office.

"Working in the finance industry and being in a front office role, I work on privileged information pertaining to non-public offering and negotiations," Traina said. …
