SASKATOON - The former Speaker of the Saskatchewan legislature wants to get into federal politics, saying he plans to seek the nomination in a consistency that's currently represented by a former Conservative Party leadership candidate.

Corey Tochor said he is seeking the Conservative Party nomination in the riding of Saskatoon University, a seat that's now held by Brad Trost.

The announcement comes less than a week after Tochor resigned as Speaker.

Tochor, a member of the Saskatchewan Party, said he wants to help Conservative Party Leader Andrew Scheer become prime minister in the next federal election.

"Why now is because Justin Trudeau continues recklessly spending taxpayers' dollars and indebting future generations," Tochor said Monday in Saskatoon. …
