Chilling Weather Causes Montclair Main Break

Frigid temperatures on Monday afternoon caused a water main to break on Upper Mountain Avenue near the intersection of Mt. Hebron Road, according to a Montclair municipal official.

The Montclair Water Bureau received a call from the Montclair Police Department about a line or main that was leaking water on Upper Mountain Avenue around 3:40 p.m. on Jan. 8, according to Water Bureau Supervisor Kevin Martin.

"It's not major," said Martin on Monday. "It should take about 4 to 5 hours to replace."

Workers from the Water Bureau reported to the scene shortly after receiving the call to replace the 8-inch main. A PSE&G truck was also on the scene around 4:30 p.m., since the Water Bureau had to locate the utility's equipment before it could begin any work. …
