BURNABY, B.C. x-15s. Faith-based health institutions are facing renewed calls to allow assisted dying, after a Catholic health care provider in B-C apologized for mismanaging a patient transfer. Documents obtained through a freedom-of-information request by the advocacy group Dying With Dignity Canada show that Providence Health Care transferred a frail man to Vancouver General Hospital for an assisted death but there was no bed available when he arrived. Robert Breen of the Denominational Health Association of B-C says religious institutions are providing the best health care possible to people who seek medically assisted deaths.
