Sheriff: Paterson Man Had Gun, Drugs

PATERSON – A 30-year-old city man who allegedly was carrying a laundry bag containing a loaded handgun and $12,000 worth of drugs was arrested Tuesday night in the city's 3rd Ward, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.

After getting complaints from area residents about drug dealing, sheriff's detectives were conducting surveillance on East 30th Street near 11th Avenue at about 9:40 p.m. when they saw the suspect, Jeffrey Suarez, park in front of a home and take the laundry bag from an SUV in the driveway, authorities said.

The detectives then confronted Suarez and searched the laundry bag – allegedly finding a .44-caliber revolver loaded with five bullets, a bag containing 19 additional bullets, and various drugs, the sheriff said. The haul included more than 1.5 pounds of marijuana, 360 heroin packets, 18 grams of raw heroin, 215 vials of crack, 108 grams of raw cocaine and 126 zip-locked baggies of cocaine, Berdnik said. …
