Police Say Man Aimed Gun at Them before He Was Shot

Two Pittsburgh police officers shot a 26-year-old man early Thursday after he pointed a gun at them in Homewood, Allegheny County and Pittsburgh police said.

The man was recovering at a hospital.

City officers went to the 8000 block of Nimick Place about 1:20 a.m. to investigate a notification from the ShotSpotter gunfire detection system and encountered the man armed with a handgun and shotgun.

Police identified him as Eric Farrar of Homewood.

Officers drew their weapons and ordered him to drop his guns, according to a criminal complaint.

Officers said Farrar appeared to drop the shotgun before pulling the handgun from his waistband and pointing it at them.

City Officers Gino Macioce and Dillon Lee Chong opened fire, critically wounding Farrar.

By Thursday afternoon, Allegheny County police, who were overseeing the investigation of the shooting, said Farrar was in stable condition and "expected to survive his wounds. …
