Cancer Survivor Is Named as a 'Hero for Hope'

A CANCER survivor who has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity has been honoured with an international award.

Jayne Whittaker, from Stockport, has been named a Relay for Life Global Hero of Hope by the American Cancer Society, in recognition of the way she inspires others.

Jayne, 60, started fundraising for Cancer Research UK after losing a friend to the disease 13 years ago.

Since then she has been involved in countless fundraising events, particularly the Stockport Relay for Life, of which she is a former committee chair.

Her tireless work became even more personal two-years-ago, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Jayne is now in remission and continues to raise awareness of the disease.

The awards are given to cancer survivors who help inspire others to know that there is life after diagnosis. …
