1867 The song "The Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze" by Gaston Lyle, Alfred Lee and George Leybourne was first published in London.

1911 The Elizabeth Steel Magee Hospital, founded by state Sen. Christopher L. Magee, began operation in Pittsburgh.

1952 Five years after its opening, the Union Bus Terminal, Downtown, closed its doors because of bankruptcy, leaving five bus lines "homeless."

1984 The Kroger Co. sold all of its 45 Pittsburgh-area stores. The 2,845 union employees who had been on strike would be out of jobs.
