ST. LOUIS * Two weeks before a St. Louis man accused in a 2015 homicide was set for trial, the Circuit Attorney's Office dropped charges against him, citing "witness issues."

The trial for Trevion D. Holmes, 24, was to to start Jan. 22 on charges stemming from the Aug. 30, 2015, fatal shooting of Joshua Buie. Holmes had been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. A co-defendant, Corey L. Palmer, 27, was sentenced to 15 years in prison in May after he pleaded guilty in the case.

Police said the shooters were looking for stolen drug money when Buie, 27, of the 1300 block of Sharondale Circle in Ferguson, was fatally shot in the 3300 block of Texas Avenue. Buie was shot in the back, side, chest, buttocks and foot. A woman, 40, suffered bullet wounds to her thighs. Police said the shooters threatened the woman because they believed she knew how the drug money had been stolen. …
