Kudos to members of Allegheny County's Lead Task Force for their substantial efforts to eliminate lead poisoning (Dec. 12, "Allegheny County Lead Task Force to Push Strategies to Ensure a Lead-Safe Pittsburgh").

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald created the Lead Task Force and asked it to recommend what should be done so no child in Allegheny County would be poisoned by lead in the future. Dr. Karen Hacker, director of the Allegheny County Health Department, her key staff and the task force immediately began a review of the latest medical research and successful prevention efforts. They presented the county executive with solid, practical recommendations.

Successful implementation of their recommendations will require strong public-private partnerships across Allegheny County. …
