Penn Hills Caregivers Plead Guilty in 2015 Death of Disabled Man

A Penn Hills couple pleaded guilty Tuesday to third-degree murder in the 2015 death of a disabled man in their care.

Pamela McNeal, 59, and Adam Haynes, 49, will be sentenced April 4 by Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Donna Jo McDaniel.

The couple also pleaded guilty to neglect, conspiracy and reckless endangerment of David Fuhrman, 54.

Assistant District Attorney Julie Capone told the court that Ms. McNeal and Mr. Haynes had cared for Mr. Fuhrman for 15 years, and that they originally met him through the county's formal domiciliary care program for adults. However, Mr. Fuhrman, who the defendants said functioned as a 5-year-old, eventually willingly withdrew from the program to live with the couple, where they continued to care for him.
