Allderdice Takes Control in City League

Article excerpt

No one, not Allderdice players or coach Buddy Valinsky, is ready to say this Dragons team is on the same level as the one two years ago that went to a PIAA championship. But signs are still pointing toward Allderdice being one of the best teams in Western Pennsylvania, including the WPIAL.

Allderdice has a number of victories against WPIAL teams, and Friday night the Dragons made an emphatic statement that they are the class of the City League. Allderdice crushed visiting Westinghouse, 80-45, in a clash of the top two teams in the City.

"We think we can be very good because of the way we shoot it and the way Tyler Williams is playing now at point guard," Blaufeld said. "We don't back down to anyone and Coach V always schedules tough games. We think we can play with anyone."

Allderdice's only two losses are to Penn Hills, the No. 1 WPIAL 6A team, and Penn-Trafford. Allderdice also owns victories against Central Catholic, Bethel Park, Hampton and Vincentian, the No. 1 team in WPIAL Class A. …
