1967 January 20: Porter Wally Lawes was left holding the baby when the Manchester train left Euston with her parents on board!

In a complete misunderstanding, Mr O'Hara left his wife and baby daughter Deirdre to buy tickets.

He was delayed so Mrs O'Hara went to look for him.

As the train began to leave, Wally found the baby alone and grabbed her and the luggage off the train.

At the same the O'Haras jumped on board. Fortunately they pulled the emergency cord and walked back to Euston.

It was a good job as the next stop was 177 miles away!

Wally looked after Deirdre until her parents returned.

Looks like she couldn't have been in safer hands.
