Nova Scotia's Progressive Conservatives have accepted Jamie Baillie's resignation as leader amid allegations of inappropriate behaviour.

A statement today says the party launched an investigation after allegations were brought forward.

The party is not providing details on the nature of the claims, but says Baillie was found to have breached the house of assembly's policy on workplace harassment.

The development comes on the same day Baillie announced on Twitter that he was resigning for personal reasons.

(Offshore-Assessment-Warning)

Protesters took to the streets of downtown Halifax today to speak out against proposed federal changes to the way environmental assessments are handled for major offshore oil and gas projects.

The Offshore Alliance -- a coalition of environmental and fisheries groups in Atlantic Canada and Quebec -- says Ottawa seems ready to take a big step backward when it comes to protecting the oceans.

The groups say a paper released in June suggests the federal government is considering streamlining the process so it can be handled by one agency instead of three separate authorities.

The alliance is also worried about a proposal to have assessments conducted jointly with the federal-provincial offshore petroleum boards in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Nova Scotia says it plans to follow a consultant's recommendation to eliminate all seven of its English language regional school boards and replace them with a single advisory council.

Education Minister Zach Churchill says the move will help improve students' success.

Education consultant Avis Glaze said in a report released yesterday that Nova Scotia's education system is not working as it should due to a "lack of clarity and coherence."

She recommended keeping the Acadian school board intact. …
