Hartshorn Students Participate in Geography Bee

For the fourth year, students at Hartshorn Elementary School participated in the National Geographic Bee.

The nationwide contest, sponsored by the National Geographic Society, is open to students in grades 4 to 8.

On Thursday, Jan. 11, 11 fourth graders with the top scores from the school's preliminary round competed in the Hartshorn School finals.

Students were asked to respond aloud to questions about U.S. and world geography, including map-reading and landmarks. Once the 11 students had been reduced to two, "championship round" questions required simultaneous written responses.

Jonah Ladetsky correctly answered a tie-breaking question in the championship round question to secure the school title. He will now complete a qualifying test for a chance to compete in the New Jersey state-level competition in April. …
