The Mets continued their trend of acquiring young relief pitchers by trading lefty Josh Smoker to the Pirates for lefty relief prospect Daniel Zamora and cash considerations.

Zamora, 24, reached Class AA last season, and posted a 1.86 ERA in 37 games in Class A. The Pirates selected him from Stony Brook in the 40th round of the 2015 Draft.

As the Mets' bullpen faltered this past summer, team decision makers made it a priority to bolster the team's relief pitching depth via trades. The Mets traded five veterans last July and August, and that quintet netted the team seven relief prospects.
