VICTORIA. x-12s. The drowning deaths of six people during a whale watching trip off B-C's coast has been determined accidental by the provincial coroner's service. The service released two recommendations following its investigation of the October 2015 capsizing of the Leviathan II, operated by Jamie's Whaling Station. Coroner Jess Gunnarson says Transport Canada is being asked to consider expanding life-jacket requirements to include passengers on outer desks.

TAG: The service says the radio transmitter aboard the vessel was delayed by 20 minutes in sending a distress signal, and it was only by chance a crew member found a flare in the wreckage that helped locate the victims. It says the vessels operator has already implemented some changes to prevent a similar incident. …
