A psychiatrist has told the murder trial of a former top Newfoundland athlete that Anne Norris had to be involuntarily admitted to hospital in April 2015.

Dr. Kellie LeDrew told court in St. John's today that Norris was in crisis and police had to be called when she went missing.

LeDrew says Norris spent just over five months in hospital and later pleaded guilty to uttering threats to a nurse.

Norris has admitted to killing 46-year-old Marcel Reardon with a hammer in 2016, but her lawyer is arguing she is not criminally responsible due to a mental health disorder. (VOCM)
