1933: The 10th Street Bridge, crossing the Monongahela River between Uptown and the South Side, was completed.

1949: Arthur Miller's play "Death of a Salesman" opened at Broadway's Morosco Theatre with Lee J. Cobb as Willy Loman.

1971: Pittsburgh Mayor Peter Flaherty replaced Stephen Joyce with Robert E. Colville as superintendent of police.

1984: Roger Ahlbrandt, assistant provost at the University of Pittsburgh and co-director of the Western Pennsylvania Advanced Technology Center, said the new center spawned four new companies in its first year and was expected to bring 80 more companies to Pittsburgh, creating 6,000 new jobs, within the next four years. …
