HOMES were evacuated after a former mill in Stalybridge collapsed.

Residents from four homes near to Oakwood Mill were forced to leave their houses.

Police and firecrews attended Grenville Street on Friday evening and found parts of the interior of the Grade II listed building had given way.

Four been luckily has been Greater Fire and No-one was injured but firefighters attended and ensured the building was safe at around 9pm on Friday night.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Police were contacted by a member of the public to reports of a building collapse at Oakwood Mill.

"The collapse was inside of the building. No-one was injured. Police initially attended and then the Technical Response Unit arrived as a precaution to ensure the structure was safe. …
