Penknife Hero Cuts Man Free from Tram

A MAN was hit by a tram and became trapped by his bag, eyewitnesses said.

People working nearby described how a Good Samaritan rushed to assist the victim and used a penknife to help cut him free.

Emergency services were called out to High Street, opposite the Arndale food market, yesterday afternoon to reports that a pedestrian had been hit by a tram.

It happened on High Street, between the Shudehill and Market Street stops, at around 2.20pm.

People working nearby say that a man rushed to help the victim.

One described him as being 'under the tram' and said the man used a penknife to help cut him free as he become trapped by his bag. Terri Leigh, who works opposite the site of the accident in the Arndale food market, said the man's legs were 'covered in blood' but he was able to walk to the ambulance. …
