Following the controversial road closures in Leonia, Weehawken started its own restrictions for commuters, CBS New York reported.

Weehawken officials want to prevent drivers from driving through the township to access the Lincoln Tunnel, CBS reported.

In January, Leonia began closing 60 residential side streets to nonresident commuter traffic. The law was implemented in response to the thousands of drivers who cut through the borough to bypass traffic on the approach to the George Washington Bridge.

Traffic apps such as Waze have brought more vehicles to town. Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner told CBS his township has a problem similar to Leonia's.

"For a community with a tunnel, like we have the Lincoln Tunnel, or Leonia has to deal with the George Washington Bridge, it's really, really problematic," Turner told CBS. …
