Millburn Boys Swim Team Takes Third Place at Super Essex Conference Championships

Article excerpt

The Millburn High School Boys Swim Team, led by Coach Mike Foglyano, continued its fantastic season as it earned third place (172 points) among 13 participating squads in the Super Essex Conference (SEC) Championships held at the Raritan Bay YMCA in Perth Amboy on Jan. 15. Seton Hall Prep took the overall team crown with 382 points, with Montclair High School placing second with 187 points.

For the fifth consecutive year, Millburn started off fast with a Meet of Champions (MOC) time in the SEC's first event, 200 Medley Relay, with an impressive second-place finish in 1:41.85 by the foursome of senior co-captain Evan Ng, senior Justin Mon, junior Eric Wang and sophomore Allen Zhu, which was narrowly eked out by Seton Hall Prep.

Eric Wang followed up that effort with a first-place finish, and MOC time, of 59.13 in the 100 Breast, a repeat performance of his convincing victory in last year's SEC Championships. Evan Ng recorded second and fourth-place finishes in the 500 Free (4:53.01) and 100 Fly (54.82), respectively, earning an MOC time in the former. And Senior co-captain Teddy Maguire earned fifth-place finishes in the 200 IM (2:06.25) and the 100 Fly (55.05).

Additional point earners for top 12 finishes for the Millers, with event place and time, included:

200 IM – Eric Wang (8th, 2:09.93), Aaron Damesek (12th, 2:13.41)

50 Free – Allen Zhu (11th, 23.82)

100 Fly – Aaron Damesek (12th, 59.31)

100 Free – Allen Zhu (6th, 52.54)

In regular season action, Millburn cruised to head-to-head wins against conference rivals Mount Kimberley Academy (MKA) and Livingston.

The Millers won 10 of 11 events in a 123-41 dominating victory over MKA on Jan. 9 as senior co-captains Teddy Maguire and Ethan Muhlon led the way as each finished first in their four respective events. …
