Police: Teaneck Star James Hit Juveniles

Teaneck basketball standout Ja'Quaye James, 19, was arrested earlier this month on charges he hit two juveniles, one with a belt, inside Teaneck High School, according to a police report. The incident occurred on Jan. 18, said a report obtained Thursday by NorthJersey.com through a public records request.

James allegedly struck one juvenile "with a belt several times on the bare skin of their torso and buttocks," according to one complaint. In a second complaint, James struck another juvenile "with a open hand several times on the bare skin of their torso and buttocks."

The incident was reported to Teaneck police on Jan. 22 at 8:30 a.m., the report said. James was arrested Feb. 5 at 6:13 p.m. at the police station, according to the police report. It's not known whether James turned himself in or whether he had retained a lawyer.

James was charged with two counts of simple assault, the report said. His next scheduled court date was Feb. 7, but details of that court appearance were not available. …
