CITY coach Pep Guardiola is within £99million of spending more on transfer fees in two years than Sir Alex Ferguson did during his 26-and-ahalf years in charge of United.

Guardiola took his spending up to £448m in just 18 months with the acquisition of Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao in the January transfer window to bolster City's hopes of securing an unprecedented quadruple.

From Viv Anderson in 1987 to Wilfried Zaha in 2013, Ferguson spent £546m on players as he clinched 13 titles, five FA Cups, four League Cups, two Champions Leagues, the European Cup Winners' Cup, the Intercontinental Cup and the Club World Cup.
