Eric Returns to Midfield Role in FA Cup Cameo

ERIC Bailly made his longawaited return from injury in United's win against Huddersfield - and it did not take long for the defender's minutelong cameo to catch the eye. The Ivorian returned to training this week following a four-month layoff with an ankle injury and was immediately thrown back into the match day squad by manager Jose Mourinho for the short trip up the M62.

Bailly had not played since November 5 so it was understandable that he was not brought on until the dying moments of United's 2-0 win at the John Smith's Stadium ahead of the Champions League clash against Sevilla.

Replacing man-of-the-match Romelu Lukaku, it was expected that Bailly would slot into a back three alongside Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof with just one minute of stoppage time remaining.

But, rather than taking up a place in his natural position, Bailly slotted into the base of United's midfield. …
