CALGARY. x-10s. The Alberta government is expanding a program that allows paramedics to treat seniors where they live and eliminate risks associated with sending them to hospital. The province says 10 full-time community paramedics will be added in Calgary and Edmonton, while 26 full-time positions will be filled in Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Red Deer, Camrose, Grande Prairie and Peace River. Barbara Ferguson, executive director of the Alzheimer Society of Calgary, says a trip to hospital can be traumatic for someone suffering from dementia.
