Blues to Meet Refs in Bid to Change the Rules [City Region]

REFEREES' chiefs will meet City to discuss the Blues' initiative to clean up bad tackles.

The Blues last week requested a meeting with the Professional Game Match Officials (PGMOL) to discuss dangerous challenges.

They specifically want to change the rules which mean a yellow card stops a player from further retrospective action when video footage shows the offence was worthy of a red.

That has happened to City several times in recent weeks, with Dele Alli, Jason Puncheon and James McClean all escaping further sanction after being booked for bad challenges on Kevin de Bruyne, while Matt Phillips was also protected by a yellow card after a thigh-high lunge at Brahim Diaz and Joe Bennett got off with a yellow for a dangerous foul on Leroy Sane.

Pep Guardiola waded into the debate, asking for protection from such challenges for ALL players, not just his City stars. …
