Canada's gold-medal streak in Olympic women's hockey is over, ending this morning with a gut-wrenching shootout loss to the rival Americans at the Pyeongchang Winter Games.

After a 20-minute overtime period couldn't break a 2-2 tie, it came down to a shootout.

Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson scored the winner in the sixth round for a 3-2 victory that ended a 20-year drought for the Americans.

The Canadians wept on the ice as they accepted their silver medals.

No final had ever been decided by a shootout. (2)

A southwestern Ontario city has declared a state of emergency due to flooding from a river that breached its banks after a couple of days of mild temperatures and heavy rains.

Conservation officials in Brantford say levels on the Grand River rose yesterday after an ice jam released and sent a surge of water downstream.

Five-thousand people and 22 hundred homes are under evacuation orders.

About 100 kilometres upstream near the town of Orangeville, officials are bracing for tragedy as they scour the swollen Grand for a three-year-old boy who went missing early yesterday when his car got swept off a washed-out road.

Police say the boy's mother pulled her son out of the car, but lost her grip on him and he was swept away.(2)
