With Flash-Flood Warning in Southwest Missouri, Greitens Declares Emergency

Gov. Eric Greitens declared a state of emergency Saturday afternoon as a "proactive response" to storms and flooding in the southern portion of Missouri.

Greitens signed the order Saturday as the National Weather Service issued flood warnings and watches for much of southeastern Missouri.

The order activates the resources of the Missouri National Guard and the State Emergency Operations Center and ensures that state resources are available in the event of weather damage.

The governor's announcement said southern Missouri remains under a flash flood warning and that several roads in the area are closed due to high water.

"We have been tracking the rain and flooding throughout the week and we are in close coordination with the Governor, state and local agencies, and response partners to ensure we are prepared to respond to this flooding," Missouri Department of Public Safety Director Drew Juden said in a statement. …
