Pug Power Helps Usher in Chinese Year of Dog

HUNDREDS of super-cute pooches gathered for a celebration of Chinese New Year.

The world-famous Pugfest 2018 came to Manchester yesterday, setting up in the Tribeca bar and live music venue in Sackville Street for a gathering of all things pug.

Hosted by Manchester Airport, the Chinese New Year-themed Pugfest saw more than 200 of the dinky dogs flock to the city centre in their finest fancy dress.

Guests were entertained during a fun-packed day by Chinese lion dancers and stilt walkers, as well as trying their hand at Chinese calligraphy - and there were astrology readings for dogs and people.

Canine visitors had their fortunes told along with their owners and they showed off their sprinting skills at the doggie dash race.

And at 1pm, the pugs took centre stage for the grand pug dog show.

Manchester Airport brought the UK's biggest Pugfest back to Manchester with the special Chinese New Year theme to mark the Year of the Dog - and the ever-popular event from 11am to 5pm sold out within hours. …
