Schweinsteiger 'Badly Treated' by Mourinho

BASTIAN Schweinsteiger 'did not deserve' to be frozen out by Jose Mourinho at United, according to his predecessor, Louis van Gaal.

The German did not play his first game under Mourinho until November 30, 2016 after initially being banished from the club's first team and forced to train with the reserves.

Schweinsteiger knuckled down and soon got back into Mourinho's plans following a midfield injury crisis, but the veteran was still allowed to join Chicago Fire a few months later.

And Van Gaal, who brought Schweinsteiger to the club following a previous spell together at Bayern Munich, feels Mourinho was too harsh - even if the midfielder was nearing the end of his career at the highest level.

"Schweinsteiger was older, of course, but not too old," he told Sport Bild. "Still, his body was not able to keep up with the high demands of Premier League. …
