OLIVETTE > Council supports utility-related measure * The City Council here gave its backing on Tuesday night to state legislation that would change regulatory policies for electric utilities such as Ameren Missouri.

Under the measure being considered by state lawmakers, Ameren would no longer have to first pay for improvement projects and then go to the Missouri Public Service Commission for rate increases to recoup the costs.

Page Selby, with Ameren Missouri's business and community relations department, told council that the legislation, if approved, would help the company to upgrade to a smart energy grid.
