THE UNIVERSITY of Salford has pledged to have a 'gender neutral' toilet in every one of its buildings by November in a bid to become the country's first 'trans and non-binary friendly' higher education institution.

Women's and men's toilets will still be widely available at the university.

But, in a landmark move, one toilet in every building will be converted to 'gender neutral',' so students, staff and visitors have a choice.

It is one of a raft of measures to be introduced after the university resolved to become a 'trans and non-binary friendly' institution.

The move comes after staff noted a significant increase in the number of students seeking support with gender issues. Students registering online for the next academic year - September 2018 - will be able to identify as 'nonbinary' or 'other' for the first time - and can use the gender neutral title 'Mx. …
