P06 - (BoC-Interest-Rate) OTTAWA. x-08s. The Bank of Canada is leaving interest rates alone, for now, holding its benchmark rate at 1.25 per cent. And Sebastien Lavoie, chief economist of Laurentian Bank Securities in Montreal, says the central bank is watching closely for news from south of the border on trade and tariffs. He says if threatened levies on steel and aluminum are applied to Canadian exports, the central bank may have to lower rates. ("..are real.") (SOURCE:The Canadian Press)
