Pennsylvania's jobless rate was unchanged in January at 4.8 percent, according to data released Friday by the state Department of Labor and Industry.

The rate - which has declined by four-tenths of a percentage point over the last year from 5.2 percent in January 2017 - remains near the lowest level the commonwealth has seen in a decade, driven mainly by people leaving the labor force.

The state's unemployment rate continues higher than the U.S. rate of 4.1 percent, also unchanged in January.

Pennsylvania's labor force shrunk by 26,000 people over the past 12 months, which means there were 26,000 fewer residents employed or looking for work.

By industry sector, eight of the 11 groups saw an increase in jobs over the past year.
