N.Y. teen mother arrested after baby found crawling on road

Police in upstate New York have arrested a teenage mother after her 9-month-old baby was found crawling in a busy roadway.

Utica Police Department Lt. Bryan Coromato told the Observer-Dispatch on Saturday that officers saw a video on Facebook of the infant alone in the street Friday night.

The video shows good Samaritans stopping their cars to attend to the crying baby. One man picks up the child.

Coromato said the child's mother, 17, told investigators that the baby was in the back seat of the car when she left the area but that "a short time later" she looked back and didn't see her baby. Police didn't identify the mother, who was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Abolitionist Tubman honored in Baltimore * A space at a Baltimore park that had long honored two Confederate generals has been rededicated to abolitionist Harriet Tubman.

Saturday was the 105th anniversary of Tubman's death.

The statue was removed in August after a violent white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., reignited the debate over what to do with symbols of the Confederacy.

Pregnant porpoise can't survive storm * Rescuers say they were unable to save a stranded, pregnant porpoise that washed up in Boston during a recent storm.

The New England Aquarium Rescue Team responded immediately to the harbor porpoise, which became stranded Wednesday. An aquarium spokesman says the animal died just before rescuers arrived at the scene near the storm's height.

Harbor porpoises are the smallest species of dolphin that lives in New England waters.

Murder victim could help prove case against suspect * Prosecutors in the Los Angeles murder case against eccentric New York real estate heir Robert Durst want his victim's words to help send him to prison.

Prosecutors filed 400 pages of documents Friday to argue that statements Susan Berman made to friends before she was killed in 2000 could help prove that Durst murdered her to silence what she knew about his first wife's disappearance, in 1982. …
