P06 - (SCOC-Gladue) EDMONTON. x-12s. The Supreme Court of Canada will hear an appeal in the case of an Ontario trucker who was found not guilty in the death of an Indigenous woman in an Edmonton motel room. Bradley Barton was acquitted in March 2015 of murder and manslaughter in the death of sex-trade worker Cindy Gladue. Court heard she bled to death after what Barton called consensual rough sex. The Alberta Court of Appeal ordered a new trial, stating errors were made that compromised the jury's ability to assess the evidence and apply the law correctly. Barton's lawyer Dino Bottos (DEE'-noh buh-TOHS') says the high court now has a chance to clarify the law surrounding consent and sexual assault. ("..law is required.") (SOURCE:The Canadian Press)

TAG: Bottos says he expects the Supreme Court will hear Barton's appeal of the Alberta high court decision either late this fall or early next year.
