Alberta's premier is threatening to up the ante in her fight with neighbouring B-C over the Trans Mountain pipeline.

Rachel Notley says if she sees any further moves to delay construction of the pipeline, her government will pass legislation to reduce the amount of oil her province ships, as well as natural gas.

She's not saying if she would cut off B-C or the rest of Canada -- or both.

The dispute began earlier this year when B-C said it would not allow increased oil shipments until it could do more research on spill response. (The Canadian Press)



Gerald Stanley's lawyer says the Saskatchewan farmer is relieved that the Crown won't be appealing his acquittal in the shooting death of a 22-year-old Indigenous man.

Stanley was found not guilty of second-degree murder last month in the 2016 death of Colten Boushie, who was from the Red Pheasant First Nation.

Lawyer Scott Spencer says while the Crown has found no legal basis to appeal the verdict, it's not a happy day for anyone.

He calls Boushie's death a "terrible tragedy" and says it's hoped the young man's family can find healing, in time. (The Canadian Press)



The head of Alberta's Orphan Well Association says the likely failure of Sequoia Resources means a large number of the Calgary-based company's sites will be added to its files.

All of Sequoia's operating licences were ordered suspended after the privately held oil and gas company warned the Alberta Energy Regulator late last month it was ceasing operations "imminently."

The A-E-R says Sequoia owns licences for 23-hundred wells, almost 200 facilities and nearly 700 pipeline segments.

Lars De Pauw, executive director of the Orphan Well Association, says that list doesn't include hundreds more Sequoia wells where production has been stopped but the surface hasn't been restored. …
