1957 March 14: Emergency crews frantically search the wreckage of a BEA Vickers Viscount airliner after it crashed into a row of houses in Shadowmoss Road.

All 15 passengers and five crew were killed. The plane was on its final approach to Ringway Airport.

A mother and her two-year-old baby son died in one of the two houses reduced to rubble by the impact. A third house was badly damaged.

Emergency services were quickly on the scene but it took several hours to recover all the victims.

BEA withdrew its entire Viscount fleet for safety checks after the accident.

1983 March 16: My Fair Lady and Doctor Dolittle star Rex Harrison is pictured visiting Manchester on a promotional tour.

Harrison, who was 75 at the time, was nominated for a third Tony Award in 1984 for his performance as Captain Shotover in George Bernard Shaw's Heartbreak House. …
