New Biking, Running Path to Open across Meramec River into Kirkwood

A 12-foot-wide protected path for cyclists and those on foot is set to open across the Meramec River in 2022 as part of a project to rebuild bridges on Interstate 44.

The Missouri Department of Transportation and Great Rivers Greenway on Tuesday reached an initial funding agreement for the shared-use path next to the new I-44 Meramec River bridges, MoDOT said. That means those who use the Meramec Greenway in Fenton and Sunset Hills will be able to cross the river into Kirkwood.

The bridge project which is expected to take four years to complete at a cost of $73 million involves replacing the two I-44 bridges over the river just west of the I-44/I-270 interchange, and two ramp bridges between I-44 and Watson Road.
