News of the sentencing of Martin Shkreli, "Pharma Bro," (March 10, "'Pharma Bro' to Serve 7 Years in Prison") reignited the rage over the high cost of pharmaceuticals, many of which are lifesaving.

The United States pays the highest prices for prescription drugs in the world. In the past month, about 49 percent of Americans reported having used at least one prescription drug, meaning half of Americans are impacted by the high cost of drugs. We know individuals who cut pills in half, stockpile medications or don't take the full medication regimen to save pills for future needs. For many people with diabetes, the skyrocketing cost of insulin along with the cost of test strips is unmanageable. One leading cause of personal bankruptcy is medical expenses.
