(Manitoba-Vaccinations)

Manitoba school boards have decided not to lobbying the provincial government to make vaccines mandatory for all students.

Delegates at the Manitoba School Boards Association annual convention voted down the idea yesterday.

Some educators believe too many parents are choosing not to have their children vaccinated, which could lead to illnesses being spread at schools.

But others say every parents should have the right to say yes or no to vaccinations.

The government says educating people about the importance of immunization is more effective than mandatory vaccinations. (The Canadian Press)

(Manitoba-Infrastructure)

Reports on the state of public buildings and other infrastructure in Winnipeg say the city is in good shape overall.

But they point out facilities such as wading pools and arenas are in poor or very poor condition.

And the information suggests the city won't keep pace with needed repairs and upkeep over the next 10 years.

Winnipeg's streets and roadways were graded at being in "fair to good" shape.

Mayor Brian Bowman says if the city uses the information properly council should be able to target what needs to be fixed based on need rather than politics. (Wpg FP)

(Sask-Overdoses)

R-C-M-P are reporting two sudden deaths in a rural Saskatchewan community that may be the result of drug overdoses.

Police say the men were found at a home in Maidstone near the Alberta-Saskatchewan boundary.

One of the men was already dead and the other died while receiving medical care at the scene.

R-C-M-P also say substances believed to be cocaine and fentanyl were found in two people in the Kamsack area on Wednesday.

The latest deaths come after eight overdoses in Saskatoon since last weekend. (The Canadian Press)
