(NL-Library-Closure)

The mayor of a small town in central Newfoundland is voicing his concerns with the sudden closure of the local library.

Mayor Bryan King of Bishop's Falls says the town's library was forced to close its doors indefinitely Friday with no notice.

He says the library was on a list of proposed closures in 2016, but that the plan had never moved ahead.

King says the Provincial Information Library Resources Board made the decision to close the library without any consultation. (VOCM)

A 13-year-old P-E-I dog has been reunited with her owner after missing for more than five weeks.

Sadie, a small toy spaniel breed called a papillon, was lost in the Rustico area during some of the worst weeks of winter.

Krista Duguay says she found the little dog shuffling along the side of the road near Miscouche and shared her picture on social media -- a post that was shared more than 14-hundred times.

The post eventually reached the daughter of the owner, and Duguay says the reunion was "emotional" for both the canine and humans involved. (The Charlottetown Guardian)

The death of a New Brunswick boxer has prompted an outpouring of support on social media from friends, fans and fellow boxers.

David Whittom had been in an induced coma since suffering a brain hemorrhage following a fight last spring.

His partner, Jelena Zerdoner, announced the 39-year-old's death on Facebook last week.

Whittom, who was once a promising super-middleweight who fought world title contenders, became ill hours after a knockout bout last May. (The Canadian Press)

Canadian rapper Classified has released a new song in support of people who feel powerless -- with a focus on women and children who have suffered abuse.
